What is immunoglobulin?
The human immune system relies on a system of barriers, cells and other factors to defend the body against environmental hazards. One of the most important immune factors in the body are immunoglobulins, collectively known as antibodies. These antibodies are specific proteins produced in response to invading antigens or other substances that may damage cells. Antibodies are specific to a given antigen, and prevent them from causing harm through neutralization and opsonization. To neutralize and eliminate a pathogen, the immunoglobulin proteins bind to the invader and inhibit it from attaching to cells and causing damage. During opsonization, antibodies coat an antigen so that it can be recognized as foreign, then ingested by specialized white blood cells and destroyed. This process also marks white blood cells so the other cells of the immune system can recognize and target the invading pathogen for destruction. Immunoglobulin also allows the immune system to recognize specific pathogens while ignoring the body’s normal beneficial bacteria.
How does Immune Advantage™ work?
Almost 80% of all disease and infections enter the body through the mucous tissue in the intestines or lungs. Supplemental immunoglobulin acts first in the intestinal tract to help inhibit the spread of disease causing organisms and toxins. The inhibition of harmful organisms or the absorption of toxins in the bowel reduces the stimulation of the immune system in the intestinal tract. This allows the body’s natural immune resources to be directed toward “battles” in other parts of the body. Thus supplementation with immunoglobulins helps reduce the demand in the gut for naturally produced antibodies, letting these valuable immune resources be utilized elsewhere.
